Tonights game against the LA Angels was strange for a number of reasons. Jarrod Dyson roped two RBI doubles. Steady Eddy Volquez gave up 8 runs. Most alarming was the ineptitude of the defense minus a routine diving catch by Alex Gordon. The Royals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Moustakas launched a rocket over the fence for his 7th home run. I said Moustakas hit his 7th home run tonight. Why did I say it twice?  Our man Moose is tied for the American League lead in home runs. He’s had himself a real nice April and looks like an all-star. Dyson made it 2-0 with his first RBI double. The Angels took the lead in the 2nd inning but the Royals took it back in the 4th with doubles from Omar Infante and Dyson again. It was 4-3 heading into the bottom of the 5th when Infante failed to make the play on a tailor made double play. The Angels made it count and turned it into a big inning after Carlos Perez put them in front by one with a single. Then our old friend Johnny Giovotella connected on a three-run homer and pushed the Angels lead to 8-4. That sequence had to make Royals fans rub their eyes in disbelief. The Royals don’t make errors. However, their errors tonight cost them the game. The Angels made the defensive plays the Royals usually make. Andrelton Simmons made a sliding catch on a ball over his head in short left field that we’ve seen Alcides Escobar make a handful of times. The ball just didn’t bounce our way tonight. The loss puts their record at 12-8 and 2.5 games back of the red hot White Sox. We’re not in 2015 anymore Royals fans. This is 2016 and we are in 2nd place. Like I’ve said before you can’t come to any conclusions just yet. Just take note of certain things and follow it for a few more weeks and see if it becomes a trend. Will Moose keep his trend of homers going? Will Dyson’s arrow still be trending up in a couple weeks? Will Joakim Soria continue to give up a run EVERY appearance out of the bullpen? Stay tuned for those answers. As it stands right now, the Royals are 4-6 in their last 10 games and the White Sox are 7-3 in their last 10. They’ve won five in a row and have out slugged the Blue Jays the past two games so start respecting the Sox right now. May 20 is the day. Sox vs. Royals. The Royals will play the White Sox 7 times in May so we will get to see how good they really up close and personal. Until then, trust in the formula that got you a World Series championship. Tonight was an anomaly. You know the Royals will come back tomorrow with their regular air tight defense and clutch pitching. They have to or else the Royals could be looking up in the standings at the Chicago White Sox for a while.
