Louis Riddick always has very nice things to say about the Chiefs. For a team that seemingly has no one supporting them except fans in Kansas City, he often comes to the defense of Mahomes and Reid (Especially when natural haters like Stephen A. Smith aren’t ready to give proper respect).
After the draft concluded, Riddick has been on record saying the Chiefs may have addressed their issues “as good as anybody”. His latest comments should have Chiefs fans super excited about one of their incoming rooks.
Recently, Riddick waxed poetic about Chiefs’ running back Brashard Smith, saying he’s an Alvin Kamara clone with 4.3 speed. Smith was one of my favorite players, and the Chiefs selected him because of his background as a wide receiver at Miami before transferring to SMU. They seem married to the Jerick McKinnon prototype, and Smith fits the description.
His 2024 season at SMU was a revelation—one that transformed him from a versatile transfer into one of college football’s most dynamic all-purpose threats. After transferring from Miami, Smith quickly became the engine of the Mustangs’ offense, finishing the year with a program-record 1,977 all-purpose yards and 18 total touchdowns. His 1,332 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns ranked among the nation’s best and placed him among the top 15 nationally in total points scored.
Smith’s impact extended beyond running it out of the backfield. He flexed his receiving prowess with 39 receptions for 327 yards and four touchdowns, and his 320 kickoff return yards added another layer to his versatility. His ability to contribute in multiple facets of the game made him a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses.

Riddick is not the only one who has loved what the Chiefs did in the NFL Draft this year. He has the most credibility, so people listen when he speaks. He’s known to have a strong connection with Reid and General Manager Brett Veach after working with both of them during their time with the Philadelphia Eagles. As a former NFL scout with first-hand knowledge of what teams discuss regarding players and their development, Riddick provides a unique point of view that deserves attention. I consider everything he says more valid, especially when it’s about the Kansas City Chiefs.

The comparison is a lofty one, but it’s not far off. Alvin Kamara was a freak for his size and speed combination and was a more polished running back out of college. Kamara outweighs Smith by 20 lbs and is thicker in his lower body. But the versatility in the pass and run game and the explosive ability warrant the comparison. At the height of his abilities, the hope is that he can have the same effect on Kamara’s game.
