Now that’s more like it. The Royals evened up the series with the Guardians 1-1 on Saturday with a win 4-3.
Royals starter Seth Lugo was not sharp, but he did not let the game get out of hand. He worked five innings giving up three runs, four hits, three walks and four strikeouts.
The boys played like they came to the ballpark with damage on their mind. They collected 10 hits and were masterful with 2 outs and runners in scoring position all day. Both of Salvy’s RBIs were with two outs. Bobby’s go-ahead hit was with two outs as well. It was a much more balanced effort at the plate for the Royals in game 2 of the series.
I’ve come away super impressed with Jonathan India these last two games. It’s a breath of fresh air to watch his at-bats because he makes the pitcher work. He doesn’t chase which is exactly why the Royals brought him on board and he already looks like the perfect fit for this team. He went 2-3 with a walk and scored the first run of the game for the boys in blue.
Salvy got the party started with a two out doinker that fell in front of the center fielder in the fourth inning. He came up again in the 6th inning with another two out knock to get the Royals to within 1. He even did his thing behind the plate nabbing Rocchio in the 1st and then Jose Ramirez in the 3rd.
Then Maikel Garcia brought his big stick with him in the 7th inning and sent a sweeper that caught way too much of the plate into the left field seats for his first home run of the season. He went 2-4 on the day, and should’ve earned himself another start on Sunday after being absent from the starting lineup on Opening Day.
Bobby gave the squad the lead in the eighth when he got on top of a hanging changeup and banged it down the left field line. Everyone in Royals..Kingdom? Are we going with Kauffman Kingdom this year? We’ll have to come back to that. Anyway, everyone breathed a huge sigh of relief after that RBI from Witt Jr. He had been scuffling up to that point with his only hit on the year being a infield single.
Daniel Lynch IV came in to relieve Seth Lugo and he had zero issues with his command. He finished 2 important innings and didn’t give up a run or a hit. He looked sharp with his fastball touching 95 mph and his change up was spinning perfectly. It looks like he has found a home in the bullpen and has proven that he is a trusted option as an early inning fireman. Erceg was good following up Lynch and then Estevez closed it out for the save and this sick Dragon Ball Z celly.
As I said ladies and gentlemen, it’s going to be a Mamba of a season (for those of you not in the KC area just know it’s the best and tallest roller coaster at Worlds of Fun). Baseball is designed to drive you crazy. One game you can see an offensive showcase with baseballs flying out of the park, and the next game could be a pitchers duel where the bats go night night. But that’s the beauty in the game and that’s why it’s played every day. To separate the men from the boys. Who can make adjustments and learn on the fly? The Kansas City Royals proved last year that they have the ability to rally around each other and not let one loss turn into a tail spin.
Sunday, the Royals will go for the series win against the Guardians and try to bring their record to 2-1. They’ll have Michael Wacha on the bump.
Enjoy the ride ya’ll, tap in with me all season long
