Star WR DK Metcalf wants out of Seattle.
DK has formally requested a trade from the Seattle Seahawks according to multiple sources around the league Wednesday and his request has been accepted.
According to Diana Russini, the Seahawks are looking for a first- and third-round pick in exchange. Russini also reported that Metcalf is looking for a new contract worth around $30 million per year.
Obviously there will be no shortage of suitors for a player like DK Metcalf. He’s in the final year of his three-year contact at 27 years old. He’s scheduled to make $18 million in non-guaranteed money, but any team trading for him knows they will need to ink him to a new deal that pays him like he’s one of the best receivers in the game.

Metcalf is a monster. He should’ve been casted in a Marvel movie by now. His build is other worldly, and he is productive. But there’s something missing that has prevented him from being the BEST wide receiver in the game. His discipline has come into question and at this point is league-wide knowledge. He has repeatedly led all wide receivers in penalties and is ready to squabble with whoever steps to him (wouldn’t you if you looked like that?). Metcalf has addressed it in the past and has said “I’m not going to change the way I play.”
Justin Jefferson is the highest paid WR in the league at $35 million per season. DJ Moore is the same age with slightly better production and makes $27.5 million. Here’s a list of the top 10 highest paid WRs:
- 1. Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson: $35 million
- 2. Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb: $34 million
- 3. Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown: $32 million
- 4. Detroit Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown: $30.003 million
- 5. Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill: $30 million
- 5. San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk: $30 million
- 7. Miami Dolphins WR Jaylen Waddle: $28.3 million
- 8. Davante Adams: $28 million
- 9. Chicago Bears WR D.J. Moore: $27.5 million
- 10. Cooper Kupp: $26.7 million
Metcalf has had at least 900 receiving yards in each of his six seasons, including three 1,000 yard seasons. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2020 and 2023.
Several teams have already inquired about DK Metcalf’s services but I have five teams that I think have a realistic shot to land him.
5) Dallas Cowboys- They have to do something right? The Cowboys have been busy clearing cap space for somebody. They restructured Dak Prescott’s deal to free up $36.6 million. They reworked CeeDee Lamb as well adding $20 million. They desperately need to give their fan base hope and take pressure off Prescott and Lamb. The offense was at its best when there were multiple options Dak could choose from. Pairing Ceedee with Metcalf would rival the Bengals for having the best duo of WRs in the league. An offense that high powered could help make up for their lack of explosion in the run game and their leaky defense. Most importantly, Jerry needs to prove that he still wants to win and time hasn’t passed him by.
4) Las Vegas Raiders: The Raiders are trying to change their culture, and moves like hiring 73 year old Pete Carrol as your head coach certainly gets the message across. The plus side to that could mean having a chance at persuading DK Metcalf to Vegas. Carrol was Metcalf’s old coach from 2019-23. They also have the bread, with the second-most cap space in the league with $93.2 million. It would be a beautiful reunion but who is throwing the football to him? The Raiders informed Gardner Minshew he won’t be returning to the team, leaving Aidan O’Connell as the current favorite to be the starter. Maybe Shedeur Sanders falls to them at No. 6 or they trade up to grab Cam Ward. Regardless, the quarterback situation in Vegas is not as attractive as these other options. They do have Brock Bowers which would make life easier on DK.
3) Green Bay Packers– The Pack were the first team I heard that was linked to Metcalf. Running back Josh Jacobs ranted about the Packers need for a “#1 guy” earlier this off-season, and Metcalf fits the description. The Packers aren’t an organization that makes big splashes on offense during the offseason, but they should be looking to add weapons for young Jordan Love. DK Metcalf could be for Jordan Love what AJ Brown has meant to Jalen Hurts. An alpha on the outside could open up more running lanes for Josh Jacobs and unlock the Packers offense. Green Bay also has wide receivers that Seattle would be interested in getting back like Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks or Jayden Reed.

2) New England Patriots- Drake Maye showed that he could play. He passed the test. Now the Patriots need to surround him with talent while he’s still on his rookie deal. They have the most cap space in the NFL with almost $130 million to play with. Metcalf would undoubtedly be the best player on the team and an immediate target monster. The Patriots have the No. 4 pick in the NFL Draft so I would imagine the Seahawks would be interested in what New England can offer them back as compensation.
1) Los Angels Chargers: If I were DK, the Chargers would be very intriguing.

Justin Herbert is one of the best young QBs in the league who is thirsty for a alpha on the outside to pair with his arm talent. Herbert has the accuracy and creativity to feed DK early and often. Metcalf would immediately be the focal point of the offense and Jim Harbaugh would find a way to incorporate him into their offense. The offensive fit is a question, as the Chargers prefer to establish the run and Metcalf came from pass happy Seattle.
