The Chiefs offense might officially be back in business after they selected the explosive WR out of Texas with the 28th pick in the NFL Draft. The Buffalo Bills held the 28th pick initially but they decided to trade that pick to the Chiefs in exchange for the 32nd pick (which they traded again, and now own pick 33).

Xavier is an explosive talent at the tender age of 20 years old. Worthy was the talk of the combine this year when he broke the record for the fastest 40-yard dash with a blistering 4.21

His speed is truly game changing and is the most dynamic phase of his game. He will eat up grass. I think one of the traits that attracted the Chiefs to Worthy is his YAC ability and potential in this offense. While he is a deep threat and will force defenses to play two high almost exclusively, he can also take the ball to the house on quick out routes and bubble screens. He excelled at that at Texas and he seems to be in the perfect place if that part of his game is going to continue to be utilized. We know Andy Reid loved to use Mecole Hardman in this role, but Worthy is a souped-up version of Mecole.

Worthy had elite usage during his time at Texas handling 100+ targets in his three seasons. He’s one of those players that have to have plays and packages created for them because they are special with the ball in their hands. His open field vision stands out on tape and you can credit that to his dynamic return skills.

In the NFL is size is obviously a concern. There aren’t a lot of guys in the NFL that are 5”11’ 165 lbs. He will most likely line up in the slot to start his NFL career but as he puts on game strength he can handle the playing outside as the “X” receiver. He will immediately give the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes some much needed juice and big-play ability that they have desperately been searching for since trading away Tyreek Hill.

I love the pick for the Chiefs, this is a legit blue-chip talent at just 20 years old. Before the draft I didn’t think the Chiefs had a shot at getting Worthy. To have him on this team will make a world of a difference for a team that was held back by an offense that was lethargic at times. I see shades of Desean Jackson when I watch him on film. His size and play style reminds me a lot of Tank Dell as well, who was a rookie standout with the Texas last season.

Pick Grade: A
