Skyy Moore- Wide Reciever- 5’10” 198- (pick 54)
I love this pick right here. I was slightly salty when the Pittsburgh Steelers grabbed George Pickens. The Chiefs traded down from 50 to 54 and I was starting to think they weren’t going to get a WR on day 2. To turn around and snag Skyy Moore is a true value pick for the Chiefs. There were some mock drafts that had him going late in round 1. For being the 13th receiver off the board, this is tremendous value. Per Hayden Winks of Underdog Fantasy, Moore had the most yards per route run of any WR in this class

This means that if you take out the gadget plays, quick screens and other fluky plays and just focus on legit routes, Moore shined covering the most ground in his routes. I also like that he’s not afraid of going across the middle on slants. Skyy will be a Swiss Army knife for the Chiefs. He has awesome versatility being able to line up outside and inside. I can see him being effective in the screen game where his shiftiness will serve him well. Moore will immediately slide into this Chiefs offense and become Patrick Mahomes BFF with his ability to get open underneath. Moore forced the most missed tackles of any player in FBS (26). I can’t wait for Andy Reid to invite Skyy Moore over to eat some cheese burgers and scheme up plays for him.
Pick Grade: A
Bryan Cook- Safety- 6’1” 208 (Pick 62)

This man is a thumper. He will lay the wood on you. He will put a hat on you. Whatever football cliche you like to use; Bryan Cook is about that life. He profiles as a strong safety who will mostly play in the box near the line of scrimmage. Being a former cornerback, he can also hold his own in coverage but will need some polish in that area at the next level. Personally I love him down by the line of scrimmage where his read and react skills really shine. Cook plays the run like a linebacker. He’s a classic “see ball hit ball” type of safety. According to PFF, Cook missed only 7 tackles on 100 attempts in 2021. He’s one of four defensive backs to record 95 tackles and 10 pass breakups. The Chiefs have dramatically improved their defensive back group when you add in the addition of Trent McDuffie. They got younger and faster which is always a sound strategy when building a football team. Justin Reid, Juan Thornhill, Deon Bush and Bryan Cook round out a group of DBs with range, power and versatility. At best, Cook can be an above average starter in a couple years. At worst, he’s a special teams all-star. I would have loved to see them go for another edge player but Bryan Cook at 62 is awesome value.
Pick Grade: B+
Leo Chanel- Linebacker- 6’3” 250 (Pick 103)

The Chiefs have dramatically changed the outlook of its defense in just 3 rounds; simply outstanding work by Brett Veach. Acquiring a player like Leo Chenal at pick 103 is straight up highway robbery. Some draft experts had a 2nd round grade on Chanel. When you look at his testing at the combine it’s easy to see why. Chanel was one of PFF’s highest graded linebackers against the run and as a pass rusher. This was music to my ears. Another defender that’s versatile, but also big and fast. Seems to be a theme for Brett Veach this year. He seems to be doing pretty well at this drafting thing…Speaking of good testing, my man recorded a 40.5″ vertical and reached 10.08 feet in the broad jump. Chenal also ran the 40-yard dash in 4.53 seconds–all of which ranked among the best at the linebacker position. He has a 9.99 RAS score and they only go up to 10. That will most certainly play. He should see the field quick fast and in a hurry for the Chiefs as a SAM (strong side) backer in the base defense. He should prove to be stout against the run and have some juice when asked to blitz. Chanel had 8 sacks last season and shows ability to rush the passer that should translate to the next level. I was hoping the Chiefs would snag another linebacker to add to the mix but I did not think they would have a chance at getting a player like Leo Chanel. He and Nick Bolton are going to literally give offenses headaches next season. Chanel has a chance at being a very good starting linebacker but it will be key for him to keep developing his coverage skills to stay on the field on third down.

Pick Grade: A-
What’s Next: The Chiefs have one selection in the 4th (135) one selection in the 5th (158) and four picks in the 7th. They could stand to add a Offensive tackle on day 3. Lucas Niang’s return to the lineup is up in the air and there is not a lot of quality depth behind back up Andrew Wylie. Daniel Faalele, Darian Kinnard and Max Mitchell are the best remaining tackles left in the draft. Tight end or a running back is also an option.
