The Warriors played us. They played us all. Back when Warriors brass decided to trade DeAngelo Russell, someone they just signed this past off-season, and picks to the Timberwolves for Andrew Wiggins, people had their fair share of criticism. I remember seeing the banner appear from ESPN on my phone and being like

What the fuck are they doing?” “Wiggins has no business being on a first-class championship level team like that”

Me

It might sound like I’m spitting venom at Andrew Wiggins. I have no ill will towards the kid. He went to my alma-mater who I found out could’ve received Wiggins talents at KU illegally. But that’s another story for another day. Indications have been circling that the Warriors apparently preparing for years

“Though all indications are that he’s on good terms with team management, league sources believe that Antetokounmpo would want out of Milwaukee if he loses confidence in the franchise’s ability to win championships,” Letourneau wrote. “This is why the NBA shutdown could buoy the Warriors’ chances of landing their long-coveted Greek.”

Connor Letourneau– San Francisco Chronicle

If this is the play: using Wiggins as trade bait to attract a super star, I’m here for it. Wiggins just does not fit what they try to do on offense when healthy. He was playing a role for this lost season that was ravished by injuries to Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson. Andrew Wiggins was a stopgap to keep fans engaged. Remember, the Warriors opened a new arena at the start of the season. They had the worst record in the league. They had to do something. Enter Andrew Wiggins. When you put Andrew Wiggins, a first and a second round pick, and your own teams teams lottery pick in a trade package, you will probably get a call back.

Antetokounmpo is signed with Milwaukee through the 2020-2021 season. If the two can’t come to a long-term contract during the off-season, the Bucks could be looking to trade him before next seasons All-Star break. If Antetokounmpo doesn’t become available, another star free agent could find his way into a Golden State uniform. Make no mistake. acquiring the reigning MVP would instantly put them back into the dynasty conversation.
